Heard a Bang and the Door Won't Open? It's Probably a Spring.
A broken spring is the most common garage door emergency. The door gets very heavy, and the opener can't lift it.
Springs sized to your door's weight, both replaced on two-spring doors, balanced and tested.
Call (843) 633-6656Don't keep trying the opener, and don't try to wind springs yourself. They're under a lot of tension.
Typical price in Charleston: $250–$450
Typical torsion spring replacement. Heavy or oversized doors cost more.
How we handle broken garage door spring repair
Torsion springs carry the weight of the door. When one breaks, you usually hear a bang and the opener lifts a few inches and quits. Don't keep hitting the button; you'll burn out the opener or bend the top section.
We size the new springs to the door's actual weight — wire size, inside diameter, length — rather than just matching what was there. If the door has two springs, we replace both so they wear out together.
Once the springs are wound and set, we check the cables and drums, balance the door by hand at several heights, and test the opener and safety reverse.
Why Springs Break Early in Charleston
Salt air and humidity rust springs. Rust adds friction and creates weak spots, so springs break sooner. We use coated springs and lubricate them after install.
Many homes have the minimum-cycle springs the builder installed. If you use your garage as the front door, higher-cycle springs make sense.
We replace both springs on two-spring doors so you're not calling us again in a few months.
What moves the price
- Single-car (8–9 ft) vs. two-car (16 ft) door width and dead weight (insulated or wind-strutted doors need heavier springs)
- Single vs. dual torsion spring setup — replacing both springs on a two-spring shaft keeps the door balanced and saves a second trip
- Hardware grade — standard galvanized steel vs. coastal rust-resistant cables, brackets, and sealed nylon ball-bearing rollers
- Opener drive type — repairing a logic board or gear kit vs. installing a new belt-drive or wall-mount jackshaft opener with battery backup
- For full door replacements: insulation rating (R-value), 150-mph wind-load reinforcement, city/county permit fees, and historic district or HOA style rules

Where we do this work
How it works
Call or send the form.
Tell us what the door is doing and what part of Charleston you're in. If your car is trapped inside or the door is stuck wide open, let us know right away.
We come take a look.
A technician comes out with a fully stocked truck, checks the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, and opener balance in person, and shows you what wore out.
You get a clear price before any work starts.
Flat, written price on the spot before a single part comes off your door. No surprise add-ons, and we test the door balance and safety reversal with you before we leave.
Why homeowners call us
- We actually answer the phone — or call back the same day.
- We show up with common springs, cables, rollers, and openers on the truck so most repairs finish in one visit.
- We give you the full flat price in writing before we touch the door — no bait-and-switch service calls.
- We tell you when a new spring or gear kit is all you need instead of pushing a whole new door.
- We balance the door by hand, lubricate the hinges and bearings, and test the safety eyes before we pack up.
What you can expect from us
A garage door is the heaviest moving part of your house — if the spring balance or cable tension is off, the opener and tracks pay the price.
We size springs to your door's actual weight, use corrosion-resistant hardware built for local weather, and test the door until it lifts smoothly with one hand.
If something doesn't sound or move right when we're done, test it with us before we pull out of the driveway.
Questions we get a lot
Can I open my garage door with a broken spring?
It's not safe to try by hand or with the opener. Call us.
How long do springs last?
Depends on the cycle rating and how often you use the door. Rust shortens their life.
Should I replace both springs?
Yes, on two-spring doors.
